Travelling with your little off spring? Home Affair notification alert

GTASA

The Department of Home Affairs has done away with two forms of the birth certificate in a move to streamline the system of travelling with minors in or out of South Africa. It has been notified that from the 1st November 2016, new-borns in South Africa will obtain a birth certificate – which would be a document including both their maternal and paternal birth information.

An abridged birth certificate was issued to parents for their new-borns up until the year 2013, But since 2014 this certificate contained both parent’s information.

To conclude this, it remains an abridged birth certificate but the abridged birth certificate is going to be replaced to “birth certificate” due to a public announcement in Johannesburg on the 28 October 2016 by Home Affair Director-General.
