GTASA’s Foods Of The World

GTASA - Global Travel Alliance SA

We all enjoy a tasty meal! Let’s be honest, what’s not better than a bit of international culinary in ones lifestyle.
If we lived in an “ideal world” where we could simply go to any country at a moment’s notice to try the best foods, then these would be the places the GTASA team suggest you visit.

This South American nation is best known for beef and empanadas, but there’s so much more to explore. Believe it or not, the ice cream in Argentina is among the best in the world, and dulce de leche and malbec flavours are absolutely out of this world. If you are as much of a cheese lover like some of us, don’t leave without tasting provoleta – a smoky provolone sprinkled with oregano. As far as simple dishes go, it is one of the best. As for native Andean cuisine, Locro, a hearty stew of corn, beans, squash and meat, is a must try… It’s pretty delicious.

In Beijing the restaurants in the alleyways of Qian Men are renowned for hot pot, or huo guo. You’ll find the streets are lined with boiling pots filled with soup ingredients. An excellent selection ranges from Mongolian specialties–best known for lamb and mutton dishes–and spicy Szechuan. The Food might not look so appetizing, but the flavours are a real treat.

Jamaican Spiced (Jerk) Chicken Drumstick with Mango Salsa and Frozen Dragon Berry Colada. Jerk spiced chicken is very popular in the Caribbean, especially in Jamaica. The chicken is rubbed in Jerk before being cooked and is spicy.  The frozen dragon berry colada will be a nice drink to soothe the spiciness if you aren’t a hot head.

New Zealand

Seared Sea Scallop with Kumara-Red Curry Puree and Apple Radish Salad – The cuisine of this country is both land and sea. It’s British-based with Pacific Rim inspiration. What better pairing than scallops with flavours of Asia? If Seafood is your thing, then this is a must-try.

Borscht and Pelmeni (dumplings) is Russian, but experiment with different varieties; salmon and wild mushroom pelmeni is definitely a winner. Borscht can be spiced up with roasted apples and smoked goose breast. If you find the time, a culinary side trip to Georgia or Armenia in search of Azerbaijaini plov, a spiced rice dish cooked with meat and dried fruit, is very much worth the journey.
